We are open on shabbat
This is a ministry that services the worship needs of it's community - this is not a retail for profit nor is it ordinary labor
We are open before and after Shabbat services to allow our members and visitors time to get worship items they need whether it is for themselves or for sharing the message of the Good News. Some 'accuse' us of violating Torah by 'selling' on Shabbat. HOWEVER, Yeshua himself observed the Heart of Torah. What is the 'heart' of Torah? Is it wrong to do good on the Shabbat? What did Yeshua teach us? Yeshua asked 'Is it wrong to do good on the Sabbath?' Even the priests 'labor' could be considered a violation of the Sabbath and yet it is not. Should worship items, and items that provide for a Godly experience be considered ordinary buying and selling? Or do the items that are received either for personal use or intended to be given as a gift to friends and relatives as a means to bridge a conversation about our faith considered something good? So if we are offering key worship items like Mezuzzah Cases, Tallitot, Bibles, etc. for offering donations that are given to God is this doing good or doing evil? Secondly, are we like the people waiting to sell their own goods to make a profit for ourselves? When volunteers are in this ministry - teaching people about the worship items and speaking of God and glorifying Him AND we are not selling for retail or for a 'profit' is this doing good or evil? All our worship items and articles of faith items are provided through donations which goes toward the building operations.
Is providing to members and guests 'Statement of Faith' items such as prayer shawls, magan david / star jewelry, shabbat candles, anointing oil for healing, bibles and study books, message CD's, and T-shirts proclaiming Yeshua as the Messhiach doing bad or doing good? Should a person who is only thinking of things about the Lord and gives a donation fall under the condemnation of ordinary for-profit retail sales? The correct and loving conclusion in the spirit of our Messiah's teaching should be: Every gift has a focus on God - and that is good.
WHAT ABOUT THE MONEY CHANGERS IN THE TEMPLE? Mark 11:16-17
It is important that all scripture be taken in context. Why did Yeshua get angry about 'money changers' in the temple? You must look at it through Hebrew eyeglasses. "Jesus entered the Temple and began to drive out the people buying and selling animals for sacrifices. He knocked over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those selling doves, 16and he stopped everyone from carrying merchandise through the temple. He said to them, "The Scriptures declare, 'My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations,' but you have turned it into a den of thieves."
Who and what are money changers? They were people who were taking non-temple money pilgrims had set aside for God and exchanging it for 'temple approved' gold and silver. The problem with that is that they Greek and Roman Coins aka foreign currency that was considered pagan and unclean was being exchanged at a lesser rate. This meant that a Greek or Hebrew God-Fearer coming to bring their tithes and offerings to the Lord were getting ripped off by the exchange rate. A $200 tithe was exchanged to $150 and that ultimately meant that these people were pocketing God's money. This also meant that the Greek God-Fearers were being taken advantage of and not treated as equals. Even if you do not know the Hebrew background you can discover the intent of Yeshua's actions be going to the Hebrew Scripture he was quoting and look at the context and spirit of which he was speaking.
Isaiah 56: Blessings for All Nations
1This is what the Lord says:
“Be just and fair to all.
Do what is right and good,
for I am coming soon to rescue you
and to display my righteousness among you.
2Blessed are all those
who are careful to do this.
Blessed are those who honor my Sabbath days of rest
and keep themselves from doing wrong.
3“Don’t let foreigners who commit themselves to the Lord say,
‘The Lord will never let me be part of his people.’
And don’t let the eunuchs say,
‘I’m a dried-up tree with no children and no future.’
4For this is what the Lord says:
I will bless those eunuchs
who keep my Sabbath days holy
and who choose to do what pleases me
and commit their lives to me.
5I will give them—within the walls of my house--
a memorial and a name
far greater than sons and daughters could give.
For the name I give them is an everlasting one.
It will never disappear!
6“I will also bless the foreigners who commit themselves to the Lord,
who serve him and love his name,
who worship him and do not desecrate the Sabbath day of rest,
and who hold fast to my covenant.
7I will bring them to my holy mountain of Jerusalem
and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer.
I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices,
because my Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations.
8For the Sovereign Lord,
who brings back the outcasts of Israel, says:
I will bring others, too,
besides my people Israel.”
Sinful Leaders Condemned
9Come, wild animals of the field!
Come, wild animals of the forest!
Come and devour my people!
10For the leaders of my people--
the Lord’s watchmen, his shepherds--
are blind and ignorant.
They are like silent watchdogs
that give no warning when danger comes.
They love to lie around, sleeping and dreaming.
11Like greedy dogs, they are never satisfied.
They are ignorant shepherds,
all following their own path
and intent on personal gain.
